Space Travel has always had two major limitations: cost and time. Time because the vastness of space makes it difficult to get anywhere, for example visiting mars on a round trip when its closest to earth would take 2 years, with current technologies. However with advancements time can continually be cut down, at least for exploring our solar system. How can time be mitigated though? The answer lies with innovation, but therein lies the second limitation, cost.

Cost of space travel has always amounted to Billions of dollars. Only countries have the ability to fund such endeavors… but what if this barrier were taken away? For the first time private corporations may be able to drag the cost of space travel to manageable levels. With the help of a proper business models and circulating cash levels and most of all Darwinian competition in the marketplace these companies can lower the cost of commercial space travel.

How is it possible? Some may ask that space travel is feasible for corporations today but not in the past. The quick answer may be new technologies but that may not be entirely true. Supply and demand may be the better answer here, nowadays defense contracting companies build parts for space shuttles and satellites and they’ve gotten better over the years. Not only have they gotten better but they’ve gotten more demand in recent years, from companies setting up satellites for cell phones and internet connections.( Now don’t be afraid of my next sentence if your not an economics major but please bear with me as I make an effort to explain :) In effect their economies of scale (this term means that companies have achieved a point where they can build components for less money per item, just because of the quantity they build) have picked up and allowed for more supply. This increase in supply allows them to lower the price in order to get more sales. this means these companies have lower barriers to entry into the market. If competition and economies of scale has dragged down prices then wouldn’t it be logical to have competition between space ship corporations and not rely on NASA or Russia?

The answer is yes. In modern times there is no need for war when competition between companies can take its place. War is commonly referred to as the reason for much of mankind’s progress without the Darwinian style survival of the fittest theme, we as a race would not be where we are today. Here at SpaeCor we believe that private entities will be the ones accessing space and creating a new era of space exploration and progress. In effect it will be the dawn of a new golden age of Technology. This may sound like some science fiction video game that some may know of…. *cough* Eve-Online *cough* but in reality its the way things must be. Why? The answer is competition, what breeds progress is competition in the marketplace. This is the reason the X prize is so successful it pits companies against each other for prizes and in effect jumpstarted space tourism, thanks to them you! not your children can enjoy a ride to outer space!
